The 'Triangle' movement system developed by YIBU Dance is about the geometric shape icosahedron and the creative connection with the triplets of the genetic base. This time, with the help of their research on mechanics and geometry in Wing Chun and Tai Chi Pushing Hands, they would develop this system into a partnering technique for their future productions - 'WHIRLING LADDER'.
We developed a movement system called the Triangle System, derived from our skills in Chinese dance, Chinese opera, ballet, popping, hip hop, Jooss Leeder technique, Pilates and Laban movement analysis. It is the geometric shape icosahedron : the most efficient and diverse movement module in the world due to our bone structure and its perfect adaptation to the golden ratio. This invention helped us to be free of style and technique, so that the movement composition became an independent craft and an art in its own right. Second, liberated from the aesthetics of the Ballet that moves mainly in the octahedron, but still ensures the healthy and economical use of the dancer's body. Recently we have also discovered the relationship between this system and the DNA base triplets, which offers even more diverse and restrictive mathematical rules to enrich our choreography. The numbers 1 (vertical plane), 2 (sagittal plane), 3 (horizontal plane) define the three corners within an icosahedron. By changing the order and the combination of the three numbers like 123, 231, 312 etc. the phrasing of the movements changes. Just like the triplets of the genetic base, the combination of the three alphabets shows the difference in amino acids like UAC = tyrosine, UCC = Serin etc. Our concept of choreography- "Choreography means creating new forms of liveliness", which was influenced by Pina Bausch, is basically practiced here with our own approach. All of this has been proven in earlier work in the field of solo dancers. What does this movement language look like in a partner context? Especially in the last few months, the development of partnerships or contacts has been almost impossible due to the COVID-19. But we feel organically that the movement language tries to develop and develop into a larger group, starting with the partnership. This will be our research focus with methods as such: 1. Sharing the center of the kinesphere and doing the movement path together; 2. Perform the trajectory back and forth; use each other's body parts as the center of the kinesphere. 3. Find some new kinesphere centers through partnerships. 4. Develop partnering techniques. In the meantime, let's focus on the pushing hand technique in some martial arts: Taiji and Wing Chun, using each other's weight and sandbags, rubber bands and rings to learn more about the mechanics, practice and find out what we need for the system These relative philosophical themes are also reflected: yin and yang, function and expression, east and west, independent and correlated, science and art, far and near, sense and sensitivity. The results will be seen in our future productions.
