WHIRLING LADDER | BETWEEN, an experimental dance duo from YIBU Dance, not only shows the compelling interaction of human bodies, but also the indissoluble connection between body and space-time and ultimately between dance and viewer. For this, the choreographers Chun Zhang and Kai Strathmann interweave the Chinese martial art Wing Chun and the geometry of DNA base pairs with artistic precision.
The base pair geometry serves as a blueprint for 16 ways to move as a pair. Micro-movements on a genetic level become the model for the actual movements of the duo, which - as in Wing Chun - are centered, minimalistic and absolutely efficient. The two dancers transfer their understanding of relationships and interaction into so-called space-time. Stylistically precise, the micro-movements of the dancers and the minimalist media fill the stage. Spacetime unfolds, shadows and lights begin to dance, filling the space with layers and patterns.
WHIRLING LADDER | BETWEEN invites the audience to experience the magic of relationships, of listening and compassion and to ask: What is valuable left when time and energy are used up? What remains tangible between the audience and the dance?
